This privacy policy applies to the CtrlTV — Universal TV Remote app (hereby referred to as "Application") for iOS devices, created by Anatoli Petrosyants (hereby referred to as "Service Provider") as a Freemium service. This service is provided "AS IS".
Information Collection and Use
The Application may collect technical information while you use it. This information may include:
- Your device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address)
- Device type, model, and operating system version
- App usage data (e.g. screens visited, session duration, features used)
- Diagnostic and crash data
- Local Wi‑Fi network information necessary to discover and pair with your TV (e.g. local IP addresses of TVs found on the same network)
This information is used to:
- Maintain and improve the Application
- Ensure stable and reliable connection to your TV
- Diagnose and fix technical issues
- Detect abuse or fraud
TV Connectivity
The Application connects to your TV over your local Wi‑Fi network. Supported brands currently include Sony BRAVIA, Samsung, LG, Roku, Hisense, TCL, Vizio, Panasonic, and Philips. Communication uses each manufacturer's local protocol (HTTP, WebSocket, or DIAL) entirely within your local network.
- Communication between your device and TV happens within your local network only.
- The Application does not stream, store, or transmit your TV content externally.
- Pairing material (authentication cookies, tokens, or PIN-derived credentials) is stored on your device to maintain the connection. Tokens are scoped per TV IP address and can be removed at any time by deleting the TV from the app or uninstalling the Application.
Personal Data
The Application does not require account creation and does not actively collect personally identifiable information.
If you contact the Service Provider (e.g. via the in-app "Contact Us" email flow), your provided information (such as email address, device model, app version, and any diagnostic log you attach) will be used only to respond to your request.
Diagnostic Logs
The Application maintains a local diagnostic log on your device for troubleshooting. The log records app actions, TV pairing/command events, and network errors. The log:
- Stays on your device by default.
- Is shared with the Service Provider only if you explicitly attach it when contacting support.
- May contain local IP addresses of TVs you've connected to, vendor names, and timestamped event descriptions. It does not contain TV content, screen captures, or audio.
You can clear the log at any time from the Settings screen.
In‑App Purchases
The Application offers a one-time premium upgrade processed through Apple's App Store using StoreKit.
- All payment information is handled by Apple. The Service Provider does not see or store your credit card or billing details.
- The Application stores your premium entitlement state on your device and validates it via Apple's StoreKit APIs.
- Restoring purchases uses your Apple ID via standard StoreKit flows.
Refunds and subscription management are handled by Apple per their terms.
Third‑Party Services
The Application may use third-party services for analytics and crash reporting. These services may collect anonymized usage and diagnostic data to help improve the Application.
Examples may include:
- Apple App Analytics / StoreKit (provided by Apple)
- Firebase Crashlytics (for crash reporting), if enabled in a future release
Each third-party service has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data.
Data Sharing
The Service Provider does not sell, trade, or rent your personal information.
Information may only be disclosed:
- If required by law
- To protect rights, safety, or prevent fraud
- To trusted service providers who process data on behalf of the Service Provider, under confidentiality obligations
Data Retention
Collected data is retained only for as long as necessary to:
- Provide and improve the Application
- Comply with legal obligations
To request deletion of any data tied to support correspondence, contact:
anatoli.petrosyants@gmail.com
Opt‑Out Rights
You can stop all data collection by uninstalling the Application using standard uninstall processes on your device. Uninstalling also removes locally stored pairing tokens and the diagnostic log.
Children's Privacy
The Application is suitable for all ages. The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and parents or guardians can request deletion of any data inadvertently collected by contacting anatoli.petrosyants@gmail.com.
Security
The Service Provider takes reasonable measures to protect your information using appropriate technical and organizational safeguards. Pairing communications occur on your local network and do not traverse the public internet.
However, no method of transmission over a network or electronic storage is 100% secure.
